In September 2018, I. Darrell Pugh, D.O., rejoined Salem General Surgery.

Education and Training

A graduate of East Palestine High School, Dr. Pugh received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his residency training in General Surgery at Doctors Hospital in Massillon.

Dr. Pugh served four years as a Trauma Surgeon and Staff General Surgeon for the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Iraq and Virginia. Following the completion of his military service in 2008, he practiced at Salem General Surgery, where he cared for patients for nearly nine years. Most recently, Dr. Pugh was a general surgeon at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Surgical Care Center in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; before choosing to return to the area.

Areas of Practice/Interest

Dr. Pugh offers a full range of advanced procedures and endoscopy services, with special interests in breast, gastrointestinal, hernia, soft tissue, cancer, and laparoscopic and minimally-invasive surgeries.

Board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, Dr. Pugh has received various military awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He is a member of the East Palestine City Schools Distinguished Hall of Fame.
